According to the results of a new clinical study, a high concentration in the body of thyroid hormones increases the risk of developing malignant breast growth in female representatives.
It has long been known that thyroid is an indispensable organ that controls virtually all metabolic processes in the body. It is difficult to find even one living cell that does not have receptors for thyroid hormones.
According to statistical data, approximately 6.7% of Europeans have undiagnosed thyroid diseases in a timely manner. Hyperthyroidism (an increased function of the organ with hyperyproduction of thyroid hormones) is diagnosed annually in 53 people per 100,000 inhabitants. Such a violation is six times more likely to affect women than males.
Experts from the clinic at the University of Aarhus (Denmark) conducted a clinical study in which an analysis of the medical data of four million women was made. Hyperthyroidism was established in 80 000 women, and hypothyroidism – in 62 000. representatives of the weaker sex.
In the course of the study, researchers found that patients with thyroid disease experienced an increased risk of developing malignant breast tumors than women without a history of history of thyroid pathology.
According to the head of scientific work, Mette Sogard, a high concentration of thyroid hormones has a proliferative effect similar to estrogens on mammary gland cells. Therefore, a long-uncompensated state of hyperthyroidism can trigger the development of a pile tumor both benign and malignant.
In the next clinical study, specialists from the University of Aarhus are planning to find out exactly how hypothyroidism (decreased thyroid function) is associated with breast cancer.
Thus, scientists insist that every woman with thyroid disease should remember the increased risk of breast cancer, be very alert and attentive to her health.
